October #IWSG: Better than Christmas Morning

                                                     First Wed of Every Month

Remember, the question is optional!!!

October 7 question - When you think of the term working writer, what does that look like to you? What do you think it is supposed to look like? Do you see yourself as a working writer or aspiring or hobbyist, and if latter two, what does that look like?

The awesome co-hosts for the October 7 posting of the IWSG are Jemima Pett, Beth Camp, Beverly Stowe McClure, and Gwen Gardner!

October is better than Christmas morning. Watching Hocus Pocus for the hundredth time never gets old. Don't judge me. I live for this time of year!

Lately, my life consists of reading to myself (I guess that's better than talking to myself) and to my students. I love being surrounded every day by thousands of my favorite things...BOOKS and FALL LEAVES. My perception of the term working writer is writing full time with no other job. That's not gonna happen anytime soon.

With so many responsibilities this year, it's getting harder to dedicate my time to being a full-time writer. I may jump on the NaNo bandwagon this November to finish a novel I started a few months ago.

As a librarian of two schools this year, it's been challenging, but so worth it. When boxes of books come in, it's like Christmas morning. (We got hundreds of new books this year!) The looks on the kids' faces when I put them on the shelves is priceless.

Are you enjoying the best month of the year? Reading any suspenseful mysteries this October?

Found these classics this fall.

  1. I think it's really hard to write all the time when you work full-time but that doesn't mean you're not a working writer. I love reading books too and sometimes spend my writing time just reading. That's okay too.

  4. Wow it's exciting that you're around books, books, and more books. Great photo, btq. Lving in the tropics of Mexico, I am enjoying autumn here in Texas visiting my daughter, but it's not the same as autumn in Ohio where my other daughter lives.

  8. Do you do unboxing videos? Next time you get new books, you might consider it. I bet the kiddos would love to see that.

  10. Books - in a school library! Wow! I can imagine you're far too busy reading them to write!
Have a great time with them and see you next month!

  13. Working reader sounds great. Our local librarian buys a lot of books and also lets our writer's group meet there. It's wonderful they start reading when they're young and then keep reading. Thanks for all you do to help them.

  14. Working reader - what a wonderful definition. I always wanted to be a librarian. It would've been my dream job, but alas, I'm too old for that. I'll be getting my old age pension in a few months anyway, but I can read for fun. And I do. A lot.

  16. I'm all about fall too! And Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and...ALL OF IT!

I'd love to see those kids faces when you put the books out!

  17. First of all, there is no limit to how many times I can watch Hocus Pocus. Or drive my family crazy singing, "I put a spell on you." ;)

New book day at the library is awesome, isn't it? I worked in circulation back in the day (public library, not at a school), so I didn't do any cataloging or unboxing, but it's a thrill to see those new releases. That really is magic!

  18. I guess I consider a working writer one that gets paid. My husband has said it's my hobby. But, it's a good hobby, though time consuming, and every now and then a little money comes from it.
