August 5 question - Quote: "Although I have written a short story collection, the form found me and not the other way around. Don't write short stories, novels or poems. Just write your truth and your stories will mold into the shapes they need to be."
Have you ever written a piece that became a form, or even a genre, you hadn't planned on writing in? Or do you choose a form/genre in advance?

The awesome co-hosts for the August 5 posting of the IWSG are Susan Baury Rouchard, Nancy Gideon, Jennifer Lane, Jennifer Hawes, Chemist Ken, and Chrys Fey!
I am opting out of this month's question. Remember last month's post when I asked the question, "Where have all the good books gone?" Well, let me tell you what happened. While perusing my local thrift stores for lightly used books to add to my library, I discovered a whole new series. (You wouldn't believe the books I have found over the years!) I screamed like a girl! Two books out of the six-book series sat there on the shelf, begging to be bought. Teenage spy school for girls? Yes, please!

Currently on book four and I'm forever hooked. Ally Carter's New York Times best-selling Gallagher Girls series has everything I love about a good Young Adult novel: mystery, intrigue, secrets, plot twists, surprise endings. I have one question for these books published in 2006. "Where have you been all my life?"
Life is picking up speed as our schools reopen this month. Stay safe out there!
Read any good books lately? (I have!)
Glad you found some books that excite you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for co-hosting today!
It really is something when you can find those rare books that keep you up at night!
DeleteOh, dang! Those sound awesome. Sigh. Off to One Click. Thanks for jumping on the co-host wagon with me this month! You meet the best writerly people!
ReplyDeleteOne-click! LOL :-)
DeleteLucky you, I haven't found any exciting book for ages and currently I am working on my new book that's absorbing all my time.
ReplyDeleteI have to take a break. It's the best remedy for getting your mind off of your writing!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI love finding a new series. One of my favorite authors is Catherine Anderson. Any series she writes is okay with me.
Take care and thanks for co-hosting.
Shalom aleichem,

I will have to check her out!
DeleteBut now you've found them and the series has many books - you don't have to read one and wait for the next.
ReplyDeleteYES!!! This. Exactly! Because I'm impatient and hate waiting:-)
DeleteThanks for co-hosting. This sounds like a great series. I'll try to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI have to force myself to put down the books.
DeleteA series about a spy school for girls sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteYep!
DeleteIt's always fun to find an older book or series in a used book store that you've never heard of before. Heck, that's how I've found many of the authors I read today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for co-hosting IWSG this month!
They don't seem that old! Timeless writing:)
DeleteAwesome! Library book sales tend to treat me well also, I love my local library :) Happy IWSG day and thanks for co-hosting this month.
ReplyDeleteI know so well the thrill of discovering a new series or author that touches that magic spot inside me.
ReplyDeleteNice your local library had an offering of used books. Here in Mexico, one must pay to have access to the library books.
Thanks for co-hosting our August IWSG Blog hop.
Lynn La Vita blog: Writers Supporting Writers.
Pay?? Oh my! I buy them myself and put them into my school library. Love the kids' faces when they spot new books.
DeleteTeenage spy school for girls...umm...yeah...I'm all for that!
ReplyDeleteWho knew this existed???
DeleteIt's such a bubbly feeling of anticipation, when you unexpectedly encounter a new writer you fall in love with, and all her backlist is still new for you, still waiting for your avid eyes. I love it. Alas, it happens so rarely.
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't wait to see what else she's written.
DeleteI write YA and, of course, I love reading it. I'll have to check out those books. Thank you for co-hosting!
ReplyDeleteSuper well written!
DeleteThese books sound like fun, Jennifer. I'm at that sad stage in life when I'm trimming my library. ☹️ It's not going well! LOL! I am never without a good book on the go. One of my nephews introduced me to a fantastic author with a gift of his book at Christmas: "The Three-Body Problem" a hard science fiction novel by the Chinese writer Liu Cixin. It was so good, and I'm so glad that it is a series! Thanks for co-hosting today!
ReplyDeleteI love it when I get recommendations for books that I end up loving!
DeleteAny time! That's what librarians do!
ReplyDeleteI love it when I happen on a terrific new series. Happy reading, and thanks for co-hosting!
ReplyDeleteSo, is your district opening? I keep hearing that schools around here are all virtual.
ReplyDeleteI love discovering new (or old) great books!
ReplyDeleteOooh. I do love discovering books like that. Glad it's a series and you can enjoy them for a while.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite like a good book discover, is there? Thanks for cohosting the IWSG this month. Good luck with school opening. I don't know which is more stressful - teaching online or being exposed to the virus. I'm a teacher too and schools are online. Again.
ReplyDeleteI see you are literary and figuratively preparing for school. :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you discovered a new series that got you hooked - wonderful discoveries. No school openings in Massachusetts. The kids will start digitally. And, while life might have picked up, the town we currently "reside" in has just made wearing masks mandatory everywhere (inside and out) in downtown and on the rail trails. This ain't over yet! :-(
Thanks for co-hosting!
I love finding new series like that. I think my daughter may have read those when she was in school. I'll have to ask her. They sound like they'd be right up her alley. Happy reading! And thanks for co-hosting!
ReplyDeleteI like that title, too! Thanks for co-hosting!
