November #IWSG: The best part of being a writer...

First Wed of Every Month
Come join Alex J. Cavanaugh and the Insecure Writer's Support Group. We discuss our fears, insecurities, ups and downs of the writing process and post the first Wednesday of every month! http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com/p/the-insecure-writers-support-group.html

This month's question: "What's your favorite aspect of being a writer?"

Besides hoarding ideas, spying on people, and eavesdropping, I would have to say my favorite aspect of being a writer is writing. Duh. And with the second day of NaNo underway, it's the perfect time to get going.
My daily inspiration

Each year I begin crafting new stories in October. (Yes, I cheat and start early.) The season sets the tone and offers inspiration for cranking out a ton of words on these colorful, cool days. Scratch that. It's been in the 80s every single day for the past month. Boo! But even hot weather in the middle of fall can't stop me. Nothing can stop me--except for my screen dying on my laptop last week. My fingers were on fire. (Almost 20k on my new WIP.) So, I've been writing "old school" or long-hand for the past week and loving it. Besides writing, I also enjoy editing and the fabulous writing community.

Which is your favorite writing season? Do you have a favorite writing spot that inspires you?

  1. My favourite writing season is definitely summer, for an odd and very specific reason. I write on the bus, with my laptop on my lap, and during the winter I always have extra bags and coats, and during the spring/fall there's usually an umbrella. So the summer is the least encumbered and thus least annoying time to write. :-)

  2. Keep writing!
And yes, it's been way too warm for fall. We may not even get one this year.

  4. I better be careful, Jennifer, I can't have you spying and eavesdropping on me ;)

My favourite writing season is summer, I can write loads then.

    1. I enjoy spying/eavesdropping on parent/teen conversations and, of course, teen/teen convos. There is soooo much to gain from these bizarre and hilarious interactions.

  5. Yay! Let those fingers fly! I can't do NaNo, but I do like writing a little every day, or editing a little every day. I go through phases with no set season. *shrugs* In a state where it's summer 3/4 of the year, I guess that works, eh?

    1. Every day is good too! I love Florida, but without the fall season, I might get depressed.

    2. Nah. You'd be too busy hitting the beach, the theme parks, or swimming in your own pool year round. ;)

  7. No worries about "cheating" and getting started early. I essentialy do the same for A-Z in April. I hate to admit it, but I do a bit of eavesdropping too. Sitting in a coffee shop or the airport is the perfect opportunity for this. It's not like I'm nosey, I'm just looking for inspiration, and boy oh boy does it hit at times.

    1. It's a good thing I did start early! I wasn't counting on my laptop breaking. Ugh. I love to spy on people at my kids' football games or school functions. Perfect for my middle-grade adventures.

  9. The fall, especially October, is my absolute best time for writing. The chill in the air, the spookiness of the season. Everything about it is perfect for writing. Unfortunately I didn't get around to doing much writing in October this year. Such a shame. Glad to hear you were productive.

  13. I don't think pre-planning is cheating at all - it's smart. I hope your screen gets fixed and that the weather cools off. It has here and the cool weather makes a big difference to how much work I can do. Good luck with NaNo!!

  14. Once I'm in zone, I think I can write anywhere, as long as my back is happy. I've had my share of computer problems, so I sympathize. Thanks for visiting my blog. #38 on the list.

    1. I get in the zone too. It's oddly calming, yet disturbing when I forget the kids. Was I suppose to pick him up from school? :0

  16. I do particularly like autumn and winter for writing because it's dark outside when I'm working on my WIP. I find that quite calming and inspiring!

  17. I always write better in the fall and winter. Spring and summer are for the beach (of course, I go there in the fall and winter too but I digress...). I try to write in different places to get different perspectives. Plus it's fun to eavesdrop on the people in coffee shops!

  19. To what do you attribute your success with over 20K words for NaNoWriMo? Do you outline? What keeps the creative juices flowing? I'm a bit stuck at the 100-page mark with my story, so I'm behind with NaNoWriMo. So glad I found you through the IWSG. www.dianeweidenbenner.com
