Tired
I'm getting tired. Don't get me wrong. I'm not tired of this challenge, but I am tired of editing my WIP. As I was finishing the final edits last night, I had one plot hole left n my story to fill. My droopy eyelids and taxed brain refused to find closure. I walked away and tackled the laundry and gathered my running clothes for my morning run. Running is where I do my best editing. I'll figure it out in the morning. But the answer zapped me last night by the last load of laundry! With the plot hole patched, I'm ready to send this story off to my beta readers and critique group. (Then after that, more edits, for sure:)

Teacher
Before I started my writing career, I was a fifth grade teacher. One year I had 14 boys and 4 girls in
my classroom. I couldn't turn my back for one second. As I broke up the wrestling matches and football games in the classroom, I knew I needed to keep them busy. We built bridges out of straws and paperclips, constructed the Colosseum out of sugar cubes and icing and made ancient Roman weaponry out of cardboard and tinfoil. Fun times.

Twitter
The one thing I said I'd never do was join Twitter. I joined last summer. I'm still figuring it out at times. Twitter is a place to connect with writers all over the world. It's a completely different experience than Facebook and that's a good thing.  @jennifer_hawes

Switching careers took a lot of faith. Have you ever switched careers? Do you juggle two careers? Are you tired of editing? How close are you to finishing your WIP? Have you joined Twitter yet? What are you waiting for?

  1. If the kids had been a few years older, you would've also faced fourteen boys vying for four girls' attention!
Glad you figured out the plot hole.

    1. Ha! It was the other way around:) It's funny you mentioned that. I'll be posting about this in a few days.

  2. Twitter is tough! Someone told me I could create a list of people I wanted to keep up with and I've enjoyed it much more since then.

  3. I hear you on the tired front, and I'm not sure I'll fully figure out twitter. But I keep doing it. :)

  5. I think I'm the only one left on the planet who doesn't have a twitter account-I barely even use fb lol

  6. I've switched careers a few times: zookeeper to mathematics prof. to stay-at home mom to author. Twitter? I signed up a couple years ago, but never took the plunge. Now I have no clue what my password is. Editing--I love to edit, but if I declare that job done on my wip, I'll have to query. For some reason, the finish line keeps getting pushed back. Wonder why?

  7. Hi Jennifer, I have not joined Twitter yet. I am always juggling my writing and teaching and like you I am tired of editing my last WIP for the 17th time (I think).

  8. Congrats on finishing your round of editing!! I'm only on Ch 2 of mine. *sigh* What is wrong with kids? Do they not understand respect? Do parents not understand discipline? Teachers have the patience of saints. I'm still a Twitter refusenik! lol

  9. I'm tired!! I was up until 4 AM because my writerly brain wouldn't shut off. I received some feedback yesterday and just couldn't get it out of my head...probably because it was right, and I needed to act on it. Whew! 4 hours of sleep. I can do this!

Career splitting... Let's see, vocal performance, orchestral composition, homeschooling teacher, and author... Nope. None of that here. ;)

You know what my favorite part of twitter is? The chats.

    1. There are times I must refuse to think about writing or I will never sleep. You are a talented musician as well?! Wow!!! Wonder Woman:)

  10. That's ok, I'll admit that I'm a little tired of this challenge! It's an amazing experience and I'm so glad I did it - but EVERY DAY is A LOT.

And Twitter...yes, Twitter and I are still trying to figure out our relationship, so I hear you! I'll go follow you :)

  11. I keep meaning to get on Twitter and just haven't gotten up the energy to do it. Too much social media, but I think I'm about the cave.

  12. I didn't want to join twitter and then I sort of had to when I took part in a writing competition a couple of years ago. I love it now because it's a great way to connect with other writers and fave authors and agents. (Although constant hashtag spam drives me crazy.)

  13. Yeah, I'm on Twitter. I go days between posts.

  14. I love Twitter.

I'm tired and can't wait for the summer.

When I have a class of mostly boys, it's very exhausting.

  15. All of the above! I'm a writer and I work in an Architectural firm. I'm tired of editing and want my WIP out the door...and also thought I'd never join Twitter. Now I'm 2k+ in followers and still wondering when that happened!

  16. I've taught art for years and have an obsession with all things architectural! I will look for you on twitter!

  17. I want to read the upper MG mystery--when does it come out?
I'm your newest A to Z follower, and it's nice to "meet" you. :-)

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I just finished the edits (at least for now!) on my mystery. It's in a pitch slam contest and I hope I get a call back for a submission by one of the four agents:)
